What is IAQ? Why is it important?

Indoor Air Quality is a pressing concern for today’s commercial spaces. Poor quality air with high levels of pollutants can adversely impact the health, comfort, and productivity of building occupants. Implementing air quality best practices should be a priority for modern offices, retail stores, and other commercial environments.

To promote indoor air excellence, businesses should follow the comprehensive guidelines set forth by ASHRAE (The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers). ASHRAE’s Indoor Air Quality Procedure outlines research-supported standards for HVAC system design, construction methods, air monitoring and ventilation. Compliance with ASHRAE guidance on air filtration, controlling pollutant sources, post-occupancy testing and ventilation boosts indoor air quality and reduces health issues.

By adopting ASHRAE’s indoor air quality protocols, businesses can diminish air quality-related health problems including headaches, fatigue, breathing issues and decreased mental function. ASHRAE-aligned strategies like increased filtration efficiency, dedicated outdoor air systems and air testing enable businesses to provide healthier and more comfortable environments for employees and patrons.

Elevated indoor air quality pays dividends. Enhanced worker satisfaction, cognitive function, and productivity along with improved customer experiences and reuse of commercial spaces result from following ASHRAE indoor air quality recommendations. For contemporary offices, retail stores and other commercial spaces, making indoor air excellence a priority is key to project success, employee well-being and business growth. Adhering to science-based air quality guidelines allows businesses to reap benefits today while building healthier structures for tomorrow.
